Iris - A Greek Intermezzo
Woodwind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, bassoon) – advanced
Composer: Ellis Ephraim, 1900
Arranger: C. Burdzinski
This is a fun, march-style rag. This woodwind quintet arrangement features all five instruments with special emphasis on the French horn and bassoon, which are all too often neglected. The French horn takes the main theme, followed by bassoon, oboe, and then a return to French horn. All instruments have a chance to play the upbeats and downbeats in the background. Due to the high range for the horn part, this piece is recommended for advanced players.
Special honor: Iris was performed by the Equinox Chamber Players at the St. Louis Music Intensive Leadership Enrichment Series (Equinox SMILES) Spring Equinox Concert.
Run time: 2:20
Sheet music includes conductor's score plus individual parts for flute, oboe, Bb clarinet, French horn, and bassoon.
